Two young Australian travelers arrive at Istanbul Airport, dead tired and fed up. After two delays- one lasting a couple of hours in the stinking heat of Cairo’s summer- and 26 hours stuck on a plane, we are both ready to collapse! We decided to do all the right things and stay up all day. We met people, walked around, and even installed some artworks in a gallery. We were feeling quite proud of ourselves by the time we checked into our hotel in the afternoon.
Thinking that it would be nice to sit and reflect upon our day we put our things down sat on the bed, and just like that it was all over.
Warning fellow travelers, don’t go near a bed with jet lag! The gravitational force of these things is phenomenal, and the consequences can be catastrophic!
We ended up falling asleep at about 4 in the afternoon, passports strewn across the table, all of our money beside our beds, our things everywhere, the key in the door, and the door wide open. Not a safe way to spend the very first night in a foreign city!
